• New Commandant Alfadarai says no to economic saboteurs
Thinking that they can evade the watchful eyes of men of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), oil vandals and economic saboteurs have devised a new strategy.
This newfound trick, National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP can report, is to use their boats to ferry oil directly rather than jerrycans which they were known for. But the eagle eye of the NSCDC will always see!
The NSCDC Lagos State Command, yesterday paraded 12 suspects who are stealing Nigeria’s oil resources. They were caught in the act as they perfected their corrupt strategy. Exhibits retrieved include diesel also known as AGO, 54 bags of cannabis among others.
Speaking at the parade of the suspects to NAOSNP, the new Commandant of NSCDC Lagos Command, Commandant Usman Ishaq Alfadarai said: ‘In line with the specific directives of my Commandant-General Dr. Ahmed Audi to rid Lagos of all criminal elements and economic saboteurs, on 29th January 2023 we arrested 5 suspects with 2 boats containing unspecified amount of AGO along Ijora axis.
Investigation is underway and we hope to arraign them before the court. On 30th January, men of the marine corps arrested 5 suspects with 2 boats and about 54 bags of substance suspected to be cannabis. Investigation is also underway and we hope to transfer them to NDLEA for necessary prosecution.’
Revealing more facts to NAOSNP, Alfadarai added: ‘On Friday, 27th January, 2023, at about 08:13hrs the Anti-Vandal team arrested two suspects on board a short Mark Tanker with registration number T – 1401LA loaded with suspected adulterated AGO also known as diesel, along Lekki – Ikate road, in Lekki axis of the State.
In another operation, on Sunday, 29th January, 2023, at about 21:45hrs, the Marine team of the Unit also made arrest of five (5) suspects, who were paddling a boat loaded with yet unquantified litres of suspected adulterated AGO, at CMS Water ways axis of the State.
Furthermore, in another development, on Monday, 30th January, 2023, at about 03:00hrs at wee hours, the aforementioned team, who were on routine surveillance and patrol, intercepted two ( 2 ) boats loaded with fifty four bags of cannabis sativa also known as Indian hemp and arrested five (5) suspects connected to the crime, at the Ijora water ways axis of Lagos.
The twelve (12) suspects have since been brought to the Command for further interogation and investigation on the matters, being presently handled, by the Intelligence and Investigation Department of the Command.’
He then gave clear warning to criminals. ‘My message to all criminals and economic saboteurs is that they should change their ways or relocate from Lagos as we shall leave no stone unturned to make sure we rid Lagos of all criminal elements.’
On his part, the Head of Anti-Vandal Unit, Assistant Commandant of Corps (ACC) Musa Abdullahi Jibrin further said that the recent charge of the State Commandant, poised at ensuring excellent performance, towards fulfilling the mandates of the Corps in the State, proactively motivated the Unit to heighten the fight against economic sabotage and saboteurs in the State.
The State Commandant continued: ‘We express our sincere appreciation to Lagos State Government for all their support and giving us enabling environment to operate. I call on all law-abiding Lagosians to go about their lawful business. We shall not rest on our oars to ensure that peace reigns in Lagos’.
He also used the opportunity to praise the excellent and gallant operation while also to reiterating the Command’s readiness and commitment to ensuring a zero tolerance against oil pipeline vandalism and other forms of criminality in the State.
On the lingering fuel scarcity, Commandant Usman Alfadarai shared: ‘We have dispatched patrol teams to monitor the movement of petrol across stations.
They are up and doing. We also have units working in conjunction with other security agencies to ensure that all petroleum products that have been released are discharged at their respective destinations for people to access.’
